Fusion:

What makes fusion stand apart from the other potential sources is that it does not work yet, if ever. For at least 40 years scientists have unsuccessfully tried to make a fusion-based reactor and for at least 20 years, it has been claimed the "commercial fusion power is 20-30 years into the future". The same claims are made today.

Putting one's faith in a non-existing energy source is imprudent, irresponsible, and done by many people.
